Work That Matters.OverviewPurpose Statement/Position Summary: The
Asgharzadeh Lab is seeking a highly talented and self-motivated
computational biologist for a post-doctoral position. Our team
integrates experimental and computational methodologies to study
the tumor microenvironment of childhood cancers (neuroblastoma and
other solid tumors) to uncover the molecular mechanisms of
chemotherapy and immunotherapy resistance. We use cutting-edge
technologies such as highly multiplexed antibody-based imaging
(Akoya Phenocycler), spatial transcriptomics (seqFISH), and
single-cell omics, combined with innovative computational
approaches, to delineate the mechanisms underlying chemo and
immunotherapy resistance. Prospective postdocs will have the
opportunity to work on a funded NCI project and collaborate with
multiple national groups working on characterizing spatial features
of adult and pediatric cancers. The Research Post Doc Fellow is in
training to help develop the academic knowledge and research
fundamentals, teaching expertise and administrative experience
necessary to be an exemplary researcher. Perform laboratory work
and conduct research activities independently or in collaboration
with the Principal Investigator. Publish results in scientific
manuscripts and research publications. Participate in seminars,
meetings, trainings and other educational sessions.Key
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Establish pipelines and existing algorithms to characterize the
tumor microenvironment using single-cell genomics data from tumors
obtained pre and post therapy.
- Create machine learning-based pipelines to identify changes in
spatial omics patterns of gene and protein expression in tumor
tissues.
- Contribute to the development, execution, and optimization of
advanced computational biology methods for the integrative analysis
of genomics data.
- Collaborate with molecular and cell biologists to investigate
the molecular bases of cancer and metastasis.
- Present research findings at national and international
scientific conferences and draft manuscripts for
publication.Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:
- Exposure to and/or experience in research in a healthcare
environment preferred.
- Experience with the integrative analysis and interpretation of
multiplexed imaging, spatial transcriptomics, and single-cell omics
data.
- Proficiency with image processing, machine learning, and deep
learning techniques.
- Proficiency in scripting environments for statistics and data
analysis (R/Bioconductor, Python) and familiarity with command line
interfaces and the Linux operating system.
- Familiarity with standard bioinformatic analyses, including
bulk and single-cell genomics.
- Candidates should be scientifically curious and able to work
independently.Education/Licensure/Certification: MD and/or PhD, or
equivalent doctoral degree. Candidates with a PhD in
bioengineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, statistics,
cell and molecular biology, biotechnology, or any related field in
the life sciences with strong expertise in computational biology
and bioinformatics highly preferred.Pay Scale
Information$29,640.00-$80,196.00CHLA values the contribution each

successful candidate's starting pay will vary based on a number of
